How to cookOne can serves two
- Open the can, pour off the liquid and set the solids aside.
- Pour water into a pot and add the mackerel and siraegi you set aside.
- Add seasoning and bring to the boil.
- Adjust the seasoning to taste.
- Braise
- About 1 cup (200 ml) of water. Boil on high, then simmer on medium for 5–10 minutes until the liquid has reduced.
- Stew
- About 2 cups (400 ml) of water. Simmer for 5–10 minutes once it comes to the boil.
We recommend cooking it rather than eating it straight from the can. The liquid in the can is high in salt, so pour it off and use only the mackerel and siraegi. The product is sterilised under high temperature and pressure, so it is safe to eat without further heating, but it is an unseasoned cooking base, so we recommend adding seasoning and simmering it.

The radish, seasoning, spring onion and chilli, and the rice and side dishes shown in the photos, are suggested accompaniments prepared separately. They are not in the can.
